Nepal Government Opens 'Cyber Security Center'

The Nepal government has advanced the creation of a national cybersecurity policy. In response to the growing threat of cyber attacks on both government and non-governmental organizations, the Nepal government has developed a national cybersecurity policy.

The policy includes plans to protect sensitive national infrastructure, strengthen cyber space, and enhance people's capacity in the field of cybersecurity. To create a secure cyber space, the government has prepared policies for legal and institutional arrangements, minimizing the risk of cyber attacks, and enhancing the capacity of people in the field of cybersecurity.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology's Deputy Secretary, Tank Bahadur Mahat, has revealed that the risk of cyber attacks is increasing day by day on communication and information technology systems.

Due to an increase in cybercriminal activities, the security of personal and institutional information, including privacy and facts, is becoming more complicated. Keeping this in mind, the establishment of a well-protected, secure, and advanced cybersecurity center has been initiated by the government.

Nepal's score in the global cybersecurity index is currently 44.99. The government has set a target to achieve 60% within the next five years, 70% within the next ten years, and 80% within the next fifteen years, by preparing policies for ethical guidance.

The proposed National Cyber Security Center will take policy on cybersecurity-related research and development, promotion of cybersecurity, and increasing public awareness.

It will work on preparing for, preventing, identifying, responding to, and recovering from cybersecurity incidents and conducting digital forensic investigations. The center will also work as a regulatory body related to cybersecurity.

Regulations and policies for the management of information technology and the development and regulation of information technology systems necessary for government agencies are proposed. The expansion of the authority of the Information Technology Department and the enhancement of the capabilities of institutions related to cyber security and cybercrime investigation are also included in the policy proposals.

In conclusion, the Nepal government's initiative to create a national cybersecurity policy and establish a National Cyber Security Center is a significant step towards ensuring cybersecurity in the country. The policies and regulations proposed in the policy will help protect sensitive national infrastructure and strengthen cyber space, and enhance the people's capacity in the field of cybersecurity.

The government's target to achieve a higher score in the global cybersecurity index is a clear indication of their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nepal's online systems and infrastructure.
